Aurora KIRÁLY is an artist working at the intersection of photography with drawing, textile art or installations, exploring how the mind records, relives, remembers. She is particularly interested in exploring feminist theories in relation with identity-making and the status of women in society. Her works relates to complex connections between events, public and private sphere of experience.
As of 2007 she has taught at the Department of Photography and Dynamic Image of the National University of Arts, Bucharest; an experience that has made her re-evaluate her artistic activity from the ’90s-2000 and come back with new projects. In her recent works she focuses on how artists relate to recent history/art history. Since 2001 she has been the director of Galeria Nouă. Between 2001-2008 she curated an important number of exhibitions and events at this exhibition space. In 2006 she coordinated the book “Photography in contemporary art. Trends in Romania after 1989”, published by Galeria Noua at Unarte Publishing House. Between 2007-2012 she coordinated Witnesses XXI – Revisiting the Past / A collection of video interviews with Romanian artists, art critics and curators from different generations.
